Our vascular doctors treat the following common conditions and more:

Atherosclerosis occurs when plaque in the arteries builds up and causes the arteries to harden. This hardening of the arteries is a serious condition that can lead to blockages, causing heart attack, stroke, limb loss, and more. Whether you have already been diagnosed or are suspected to have the condition, it’s important to see an atherosclerosis specialist as soon as possible for treatment.

An aneurysm occurs when the wall of a blood vessel becomes weak and starts to bulge. This weakening creates an abnormal widening or “ballooning” more than 50 percent of the vessel’s normal diameter. Most Americans diagnosed with an aneurysm have an aortic aneurysm, an aneurysm in the aorta. This is the largest artery in the body, which extends from above the heart and down towards the hips.

Aortic aneurysms can occur in the wall of the aorta in the abdomen (abdominal aortic aneurysm) or in the chest (thoracic aortic aneurysm). Left untreated, aortic aneurysms can dissect or rupture, and can cause life-threatening complications.

The carotid arteries are major blood vessels on each side of your neck that provide your brain with oxygen-rich blood. These arteries can become blocked or narrowed due to the buildup of plaque. Over time, this buildup of plaque can cause stiffening of the arteries (atherosclerosis) and result in stroke. If you have a carotid artery blockage or have been diagnosed with carotid artery stenosis, it’s important to seek treatment as soon as possible.

Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT) is a fairly rare condition, impacting only two to five percent of people in their lifetime. However, it is the third most common type of vascular disease. When this condition develops, it’s important to get prompt attention from a vascular doctor because it can be a serious and even deadly condition.

Peripheral Artery Disease (PAD), occurs when blood flow to the limbs is reduced due to narrowed arteries. This circulatory disorder is a serious condition that can cause problems using the arms and legs. Often, an individual will not know he or she has the disease until certain PAD signs and symptoms are present.

Critical Limb Ischemia (CLI) is a serious form of Peripheral Artery Disease. Individuals with critical limb ischemia have a severe blockage in the arteries of their legs. This greatly reduces blood flow and causes symptoms like severe pain in the feet or toes, sores and wounds that won’t heal, and left untreated, may require amputation of the affected areas.

Mesenteric Artery Stenosis is a condition where blood flow to the small intestine is decreased, due to narrowing of the mesenteric arteries. These arteries can narrow suddenly due to a blood clot or over time from a buildup of fatty deposits in the arteries. Surgery is required to treat mesenteric artery stenosis. If not treated quickly, acute mesenteric ischemia can lead to damage of the bowels, sepsis, or even death.

Renal artery stenosis is a condition that reduces blood flow to the kidneys, due to narrowing of the renal arteries. Without adequate blood flow, the kidneys are not able to process waste and remove fluids like they should. If not treated properly, people with renal artery stenosis may injure their kidneys, experience high blood pressure, kidney failure requiring kidney transplant or dialysis, and other complications.
