Robert A. Maxwell, MD, FACS
Dr. Maxwell, board certified through the American Board of Surgery (ABS) and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS), specializes in advanced general surgical problems with special interest in gallbladder conditions, hernia surgery, and diverticulitis. He is part of a six-member team of acute care surgeons at Erlanger Medical Center providing high acuity care for the region’s sickest and most difficult surgery patients requiring ICU hospitalization. Dr. Maxwell joined University Surgical Associates in 1999.
Dr. Maxwell has office hours at the Erlanger Medical Mall on Monday (1 – 4 pm) and Thursday (1 – 4 pm), and performs surgery at Erlanger Hospital.
Dr. Maxwell is a Professor of Surgery, Department of Surgery, for the University of Tennessee College of Medicine, Chattanooga.

Dr. Maxwell offers hernia surgery through the USA Hernia Center. At our hernia center, we offer a collaborative approach to improve the quality of care for hernia patients.
