JOBTITLE:                UTCOM CLINICAL NURSE, RN

DEPARTMENT:       CLINICALOPERATIONS

REPORTSTO:          CLINICAL DIRECTOR

 

JOBSUMMARY:

            TheClinical Nurse, RN is responsible for ensuring that professional nursing careis provided to the UTCOM Surgery Clinic patients of USA. They’ll be responsiblefor coordinating patient care functions within the clinic, as well as throughother disciplines and providers. The RN is also responsible for the directand/or indirect care of the patient.

 

POSITIONACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Commitment to perform all job responsibilities in accordance with thephilosophy and mission statement of USA. Honest, ethical, professional behavioris a condition of employment.

  • Responsible for the preparation of hospital charge sheets and facesheets.

  • Assists with entire office functions as needed, i.e., answers phone,triages all calls, schedules all appointments, loads patients into Vitera andMedstreaming , chart preparation for all clinics, exit scheduling, etc.  

  • Schedules and obtains precertification for surgery by coordinating withthe Attending doctor, Resident, nurse and surgery scheduler.  Maintains the Orange Service Outlook Schedule.

  • Reviews x-rays, path reports, along with other special studies. Ensuresthe resident and attending physician is informed as needed and places reportsin the correct charts

  • Coordinates consultations and appointments with other specialty clinicand physician offices as well as with the hospital.

  • Coordinates patients being admitted to the hospital including: writingadmission orders, informing residents, coordinating direct admits from otherphysicians and hospitals.

  • Set-up and assists the physician with “in-office” surgical procedures

  • Dispenses appropriate oral and injectable medications; Phlebotomy asneeded.

  • Schedule and calls for test results and notifies physician and patientsas directed.

  • Conducts phone conferences with patients using approved protocols.Schedules appointments, referrals, procedures, and prescribes designatedmedications/treatments per protocols

  • Provides patient education, instruction and work guidance.

  • Provides discharge instruction and coordinates consults, home health,and follow-up care as necessary

  • Coordinate patient care with outside referral agencies such as ProjectAccess, Homeless Healthcare, Volunteers in Medicine, and TBCCEDP.

  • Work closely and coordinate care with the Indigent Program at Erlangerand help the patient properly apply for available programs.

  • Work with the UTCOM and manage the Orange Clinic schedule to make sureattending physicians are assigned to cover all surgery and specialty clinics.

  • Have a working knowledge of breast, trauma, surgery, colo-rectal,vascular and endocrine patients to coordinate the various specialty clinics.

  • Track mammogram and colonoscopies for future clinics.

  • Manage Clinic MA assignments and observe whether assignments such asordering, stocking and cleaning are being completed.

  • Performs all other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing

  • Two years or nursing experience strongly preferred

  • BLS Healthcare Provider

  • Current licensure in the state of Tennessee
